Mike came to Proposal in Italy® with a very clear ambition for Tatheane: he wanted to create an unforgettable Lake Como engagement, completely private and designed as an entire evening rather than a single proposal moment.
He was looking for something highly visual, romantic and meticulously coordinated, but he was also comfortable giving our team the freedom to make many of the aesthetic decisions.
The result was a private experience at Villa Noseda in Moltrasio, beginning with a boat journey from Menaggio and unfolding through white roses, hundreds of candles, live piano and violin, cinematic photography and video, scenic effects and a private dinner prepared by a chef.
Designing Mike & Tatheane’s Lake Como Engagement
From the beginning, Mike was not looking for a simple setup.
His brief was to create an experience with a strong visual impact while keeping it completely private for the two of them.
Villa Noseda gave us the freedom to bring several elements together in one setting: the lake arrival, an extensive floral installation, live musicians, photography, cinematic video, drone coverage, scenic effects and a private dinner afterwards.
Rather than treating each service separately, the entire evening was planned as one sequence.
The Evening Began at Grand Hotel Victoria
Mike and Tatheane were staying at Grand Hotel Victoria in Menaggio.
At 6:30 p.m., a private boat collected them directly from the hotel pier for the journey across Lake Como to Villa Noseda.
The navigation lasted approximately 45 minutes.
For Tatheane, this was simply the beginning of an evening on the lake. Behind the scenes, however, the villa was already full of activity.
Our team remained in continuous contact with the skipper so that the arrival could be coordinated precisely with the florist, photographers, videographers, musicians and effects team waiting at the property.
Behind the Scenes at Villa Noseda
While Mike and Tatheane were crossing the lake, the final preparations were taking place at Villa Noseda.
The florist had arrived earlier in the afternoon to create the proposal installation, while the photographer and videographer documented the finished setting and prepared their positions before the couple arrived.
The pianist and violinist rehearsed the music, the effects team positioned the scenic elements, and the private chef began preparing dinner.
By 7:00 p.m., the final checks were underway and the candles were being lit.
Every supplier had to be ready before the boat reached the private dock. The photographers and video team also needed to remain out of Tatheane’s sight so that nothing revealed what Mike had planned.
A Heart of White Roses and Hundreds of Candles
Mike had one particularly clear request for the design: white roses, and a lot of them.
The floral installation was deliberately more abundant than the inspiration images initially discussed, with an oversized heart created from white roses and surrounded by an extensive candle arrangement.
Mike had originally imagined more than 500 candles, reflecting just how dramatic he wanted the final visual effect to feel.
The objective was not simply to decorate the villa. It was to create a strong focal point against Lake Como while still allowing the architecture, gardens and water to remain part of the composition.

Live Piano and Violin: “Thank God”
Music was planned as part of the reveal rather than as background entertainment.
Mike chose “Thank God” by Kane Brown and Katelyn Brown, performed in an orchestral arrangement by a pianist and violinist.
The musicians arrived before the couple, rehearsed the piece and waited for the agreed signal.
Their performance had to begin at exactly the right point in Mike and Tatheane’s walk toward the proposal setting.
This level of coordination is one of the reasons live music can have such an impact during a proposal. The song itself matters, but so does the moment at which the couple hears it.

A Custom Engagement Ring Created for Tatheane
One of the most personal elements of Mike’s plan had actually begun long before they arrived in Italy.
Rather than selecting a ready-made ring, Mike worked with
Premier Jewelers
to create and personalise Tatheane’s engagement ring.
It was another reflection of the way Mike approached the proposal: the important elements were not chosen generically, but designed around Tatheane.
The ring, her favourite food at dinner, the music and the atmosphere at Villa Noseda all became individual parts of the same story.
7:20 PM – Arrival at Villa Noseda
At approximately 7:20 p.m., the private boat arrived at Villa Noseda’s dock.
By this point the installation was complete, the candles were burning, the musicians were ready and the photography and video teams were in position.
Mike and Tatheane were welcomed at the villa and guided toward the proposal area.
For Tatheane, the setting was revealed only as she approached it.
7:30 PM – The Proposal
At 7:30 p.m., the musicians began to play.
Mike brought Tatheane into the white rose and candle installation and asked her to marry him, presenting the custom engagement ring he had commissioned especially for her.
At the same moment, the photography, cinematic video and drone teams captured the scene from different perspectives.
Smoke effects and sparkles were also incorporated into the sequence, creating the strong visual impact Mike had wanted from the beginning.
The final result may appear spontaneous in the photographs, but the timing depended on the coordination of the boat, musicians, florist, photographers, videographers, drone operator and effects team.
Photography, Video and Sunset on the Lake
After the proposal, Mike and Tatheane spent time around Villa Noseda for photographs and cinematic footage.
At approximately 8:00 p.m., they returned to the boat for another short cruise dedicated specifically to photography and video during the evening light.
This second moment on the water had a completely different atmosphere from their arrival.
Before the proposal, the boat had been part of the surprise. Afterwards, it became time for them to enjoy Lake Como together as an engaged couple.
A Private Dinner Designed Around the Couple
While Mike and Tatheane were on the lake, the villa was prepared for the next part of the evening: a private dinner with their own chef.
Dinner was deliberately personalised.
The menu began with Prosciutto di Parma, buffalo mozzarella and focaccia, followed by Bucatini all’Amatriciana — chosen because it is one of Tatheane’s favourite dishes.
Slow-roasted beef with roasted potatoes followed, with tiramisù for dessert.
Mike had also told us about his tree nut allergy, so the menu needed to avoid tree nuts completely.
Neither Mike nor Tatheane drinks alcohol, so the evening was planned without wine or champagne and with non-alcoholic alternatives instead.
These may seem like small operational details compared with hundreds of candles or an elaborate floral installation, but they are exactly what allows an event to feel designed for two specific people rather than built from a standard proposal package.
One Experience from Arrival to Dinner
The dinner began at approximately 9:00 p.m.
By this stage, Mike and Tatheane had arrived by boat, become engaged, photographed around the villa, returned to Lake Como for sunset imagery and come back to a private table waiting for them.
There was no public restaurant reservation to reach and no need to leave immediately after the proposal.
At the end of dinner, a private car and driver were ready for their return to Grand Hotel Victoria in Menaggio.
The return by car rather than boat was another deliberate logistical choice: the journey back needed to be comfortable and simple after a long evening.
Why Villa Noseda Worked for This Proposal
Mike’s proposal required far more than an attractive viewpoint.
We needed a location where a substantial floral installation could be created, hundreds of candles could form part of the design, musicians and production teams could work discreetly, a boat could arrive directly from the lake and a private dinner could follow afterwards.
Villa Noseda allowed these different elements to be coordinated within one private experience.
That is what made the location particularly appropriate for Mike and Tatheane.
What Luxury Proposal Planning Actually Means
For us, luxury proposal planning is not simply adding more flowers or more services.
It means understanding what the client wants the other person to experience and then coordinating every supplier, movement and detail so that the planning remains invisible.
In Mike and Tatheane’s case, this involved the timing of the hotel departure, communication with the skipper, the arrival at Villa Noseda, the position of photographers and videographers, the musicians’ cue, drone coverage, scenic effects, the sunset boat session, dinner service and the private transfer back to Menaggio.
Tatheane did not need to know any of that was happening.
She only needed to experience the evening Mike had imagined for her.
Planning a Lake Como Engagement
A Lake Como engagement can be completely different from one couple to another.
Some proposals need only a beautiful location and a photographer. Others, like Mike and Tatheane’s, require a private venue and the coordination of an entire production.
The right approach depends on privacy, the couple’s accommodation, boat access, venue restrictions, sunset timing, photography, weather, dinner plans and how much of the experience needs to remain hidden from the person being proposed to.
